YAMAGATA AMERICA is the first among the YAMAGATA group to receive the Chain of Custody (CoC) certificate from The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

February 19th, 2008 YAMAGATA AMERICA received the Chain of Custody certificate from FSC.

FSC is a non-profit international organization that certifies that lumber produced from the forest falls under the responsible forest management standards, and distributes the trademark used to identify products which use this certified lumber. The purpose of issuing the certification is to protect the forest from illegal cutting and to maintain a sustainable amount of trees.

FSC is an organization that administrates the Forest Certification System, which evaluates and certifies the forest management according to the FSC standards.

The FSC certification process has 2 categories.

  1. Forest Management (FM) Certificate
    Forest management certification involves an inspection of the forest to ensure it complies with the FSC standards based on a social, economic, and environmental view point.
  2. Chain of Custody (COC) Certificate
    Chain-of-custody certifies that the products and the forest comply with the FSC standard and the path taken by raw materials from the forest to the consumer, including all successive stages of processing, transformation, manufacturing and distribution are traceable.

FSC targets every forest in the world for certification in terms of the proper environmental protection, social benefit, and economically sustainable forest management under a reliable evaluation system.

Consumers can also contribute to the world wide forest protection scheme indirectly by purchasing products displaying the FSC logo.

The FSC logo and CoC certificate # will be used to identify YAMAGATA AMERICA's products which use FSC certified paper.
